MunichMühldorf Line Closed to Accelerate Signalling Upgrades Through Mid-September

The shutdown bundles major cable, signal and switch installations into a single window ahead of the first electronic control centres scheduled to enter service at the end of 2025.

Overview

  • RB40 and RE4 regional trains are suspended until 15 September at 07:11 and replaced by defined bus services departing from Messestadt Ost Steig 5.
  • Passengers are advised to use MVG U-Bahn line 2 between Messestadt Ost and München Ost or Hauptbahnhof to bypass affected sections.
  • The closure concentrates extensive cabling, signal mounting and switch modifications into one prolonged shutdown to minimise future service disruptions.
  • Direct buses between Dorfen and Messestadt Ost take about 45 minutes but require additional S-Bahn transfers for access to central Munich.
  • Deutsche Bahn plans to commission electronic interlockings at Hörlkofen and Thann-Matzbach by the end of 2025, with a second stage and central control from Dorfen to follow.
