Munich Sets 2026 Transit Plan With Tram Reopening in February and Fare Hike in Effect

Staggered works will reshape service across rail, tram, buses and roads, trading detours now for capacity gains later.

Overview

  • The first section of the Tram‑Westtangente between Agnes‑Bernauer‑Straße and Ammerseestraße is scheduled to reopen on 27 February, with a further reach to Ratzingerplatz planned for the second half of 2026 using a provisional turning loop.
  • MVV ticket prices rose on 1 January by about 4% on average, lifting the inner‑area single ticket to €4.20 while single‑zone trips in zones 2–12 dropped to €2.70 and the Streifenkarte increased to €18.70.
  • Demolition and rebuilding of the A95 bridge at München‑Kreuzhof has begun, bringing full closures and diversions with the junction exit expected to remain closed until roughly March.
  • From 1 June, S‑Bahn lines S3, S4, S6 and S8 will skip Laim eastbound until 2028 for station works, and tunnel boring on the Zweite Stammstrecke is slated to start in September.
  • MVG will adjust bus operations in 2026, expanding service on lines 57, 143 and 164, deploying larger vehicles on 130 and 190, dropping reinforcement trips on 56, 58, 68, 162 and 163, and shortening the night line 71 route.
