Overview

  • Prosecutors closed their investigation on June 23, deeming the April drowning an unresolvable accident and clearing the city of criminal liability.
  • Surfing is now permitted daily from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., ending night sessions that raised rescue risks.
  • Only experienced, physically fit surfers may ride the wave and must do so in pairs under a buddy system.
  • All surfers must use self-releasing leashes designed to detach if caught on riverbed obstacles.
  • The safety concept was finalized in talks between Mayor Dieter Reiter’s office and the Interessengemeinschaft Surfen in München.
