Munich Police Investigate Three New Year Explosions at Apartment Doors and Window

Police have issued a public tipline for information on the three blasts.

Overview

  • The incidents occurred from late December 31 to early January 1 between about 10:30 p.m. and 12:15 a.m. in Berg am Laim, Riem and Schwanthalerhöhe.
  • Small devices left handball-sized holes in two apartment doors and shattered a kitchen window, with remnants secured for forensic analysis.
  • No injuries were reported, and property damage ranged from several hundred euros to several thousand euros per incident.
  • Emergency calls came from a 31-year-old woman with two children, a 63-year-old man and a 37-year-old man who reported blasts, smoke and alarms.
  • Kommissariat 13 is investigating the offense of causing an explosives detonation and evaluating potential links between the cases, with observations requested from streets including Altöttinger, Schlüsselbergstraße, Simbacher, Elisabeth-Mann-Borgese, Heinrich-Böll, Maria-Montessori, Tulbeckstraße, Ganghoferstraße and Ligsalzstraße.
