Munich Hosts Debut of Weißwurst Krapfen on Carnival Tuesday

Conceived by Augustiner host Thomas Vollmer with Konditorei Kreutzkamm, the Fasching pastry reimagines Munich staples using a giant Weißwurst slice plus a sweet–hot mustard mix.

Overview

  • The savory Krapfen will be sold on February 17 for €6.66 at inner‑city venues including the Hofbräuhaus, Augustiner am Dom, Augustiner Stammhaus, Café Kreutzkamm, the Augustiner am Platzl, the Klosterwirt, and the Weißes Bräuhaus im Tal.
  • Vollmer partnered with Conditorei Kreutzkamm to adapt the pastry and sausage, positioning the novelty as a seasonal draw for Fasching.
  • Each portion uses a slice from an oversized Weißwurst about 10 centimeters in diameter and 40 centimeters long, paired with a blend of Munich Weißwurstsenf and Düsseldorf Löwensenf.
  • Early tastings were broadly positive, including a tz.de self‑test scoring 80 out of 100 and praise from Munich economic official Christian Scharpf.
  • Organizers note the traditional noon cutoff for eating Weißwurst does not apply, citing modern refrigeration for safe serving throughout the day.
