Munich Fire Department Saves Final Squirrel Nestling from Turnerstraße Roof Gable

Following the fall of two juveniles, firefighters deployed a turntable ladder to reach the last squirrel before handing over all three to wildlife carers.

Overview

  • Two juvenile squirrels fell from a Turnerstraße roof gable and were found injured by passersby.
  • Wildlife protection volunteers had already placed blankets as a makeshift safety net beneath the nest.
  • Restricted access forced crews to remove a roof board and use a turntable ladder to secure the remaining nestling.
  • Rescuers named the squirrel “Fabi” in honor of the firefighter who operated the ladder.
  • All three young squirrels are now receiving care from the Wildtierwaisenschutz e.V. association.
