Munich and Augsburg Expand New Year’s Eve Transit With Night Express Runs and Reroutes

Officials urge travelers to use operator apps for live updates during street closures.

Overview

  • Munich’s MVG confirms densified service until about 2:00 a.m., then switches to the weekend U-Bahn night network with 30-minute intervals on lines U1–U6.
  • U-Bahn lines run roughly every 10 minutes across full routes until about 1:00 a.m., then generally every 20 minutes to 2:00 a.m., with exceptions including U6 Fröttmaning–Garching at 20-minute intervals, U5 at 10-minute intervals until ~2:00 a.m., a U2 shuttle Milbertshofen–Kolumbusplatz, and a U3/U6 shuttle Münchner Freiheit–Brudermühlstraße.
  • All Munich night-bus and night-tram lines operate continuously, mostly every 30 minutes (N80/81 hourly, some lines every 15 minutes), with larger buses on select routes and a Bus 100 diversion near Friedensengel from about 11:00 p.m. on Dec. 31.
  • Ludwigstraße’s Silvestermeile closure triggers bus diversions through Jan. 2, affecting lines 58, 68, 153, 154 and night lines N40, N41, N45 on specified segments.
  • Augsburg’s AVV runs Silvester-Nachtexpress services, including Sondernachtlinie 992 from Augsburg Hbf to Kissing at 1:07, 2:07 and 3:07 a.m., with night express departures from Königsplatz starting 11:30 p.m., a brief pause at midnight, and half-hourly trips until 4:00 a.m.; Dec. 31 follows Saturday timetables and Jan. 1 follows Sunday schedules.
