Munich Airport Opens Registration for Volunteer Test Passengers for New Terminal 1 Pier
The airport will run scripted simulations to identify weaknesses before opening the 95,000 m² facility in the first half of 2026.
Overview
- Trial operations begin in early November 2025 and will run over several months at the new Terminal 1 pier.
- The exercises will test end-to-end processes from check-in and security screening to boarding, transfers and baggage handling, with participants not actually flying.
- Volunteers receive individual role scripts for each test day to recreate realistic passenger journeys and operational scenarios.
- Participation is unpaid and requires online registration, a full test-day commitment, normal physical fitness, and a minimum age of 18.
- The pier is designed to handle up to six widebody jets or twelve smaller aircraft and roughly six million passengers a year, a step the airport presents as risk reduction after recent operational disruptions.
