Munich Airport Opens Bavaria’s Largest Public EV Charging Park

North Rhine-Westphalia now leads Germany in public charger totals.

Overview

  • Germany counted 175,141 publicly accessible charging points on August 1, up 16% year over year, with fast chargers reaching 42,147 units (+34% YoY).
  • North Rhine-Westphalia overtook Bavaria in total public points at 34,063 versus 33,909, with Baden-Württemberg third at 29,946.
  • Munich Airport has activated 275 AC charging points in Parkhaus P44 across 138 pillars, delivering up to 22 kW per connector with a nominal 11 kW rating.
  • The new facility is coupled to rooftop solar on P44 and neighboring P43 providing about 3 MW of capacity, backed by roughly €5.2 million in airport investment.
  • The additional points could narrow Bavaria’s deficit, though the state already leads in fast-charger numbers and total installed nominal charging power.
