Overview

  • The Vidyavihar Road Over Bridge (ROB), connecting LBS Marg to Ramkrishna Chemburkar Marg, is now expected to be completed by April 2026, after initial deadlines were pushed back due to multiple delays.
  • Delays stemmed from challenges such as clearing 80 encroachments, relocating utilities, and stormwater drain realignments, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on construction timelines.
  • At 650 meters in length, the Vidyavihar ROB will be one of Mumbai's longest, featuring girders weighing approximately 1,100 metric tonnes each, with approach-road work currently underway.
  • In contrast, the Bellasis cable-stayed bridge is progressing six months ahead of schedule, with completion expected by November 30, 2025, while the Carnac Bunder bridge is set to open by June 10, 2025.
  • Residents and commuters anticipate reduced congestion from the new east-west and north-south connectors, though concerns persist about potential bottlenecks near the Vidyavihar ROB.
