Overview
- Passenger service began across the entire 33.5 km corridor at 5:55 am Thursday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final 10.99 km Acharya Atre Chowk–Cuffe Parade stretch on Wednesday.
- The Aqua Line spans 27 underground stations with a design speed of 95 km/h, operates about 31 trains with peak headways of five minutes, and charges fares from Rs 10 to Rs 70.
- Tata Power is supplying roughly 40 MW via Saki, Dharavi and Mahalaxmi receiving stations using a dual busbar arrangement to ensure uninterrupted power.
- MMRC projects a roughly 15% reduction in suburban rail load, a daily cut of about 6.65 lakh road trips and fuel savings near 3.54 lakh litres, with integration to CSMT, Churchgate and Mumbai Central plus NCMC and the Mumbai One app.
- The final phase cost Rs 12,195 crore within the Rs 37,276 crore project financed largely by JICA, which overcame tunnelling and legal hurdles, the Aarey carshed dispute, and delivered mitigation such as mangrove restoration, 23,000+ trees and rehabilitation for displaced families.
