Overview

  • Construction across the seven sites is roughly 30–50% complete, averaging 36% progress with Bhandup at 51% and Malad at 28%.
  • On-site biogas units are being installed to convert treated sludge into energy, targeting about 20% of each plant’s 16 MW power needs.
  • Secondary and tertiary treatment modules are being integrated to meet stricter CPCB standards and reduce pollutant discharge into Mumbai’s waterways.
  • Half of the 2,464 MLD capacity will produce potable-quality recycled water for non-potable uses via tanker filling points at nominal charges.
  • BMC plans phased commissioning with Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Versova going live in 2026, followed by Worli, Bandra and Dharavi in 2027 and Malad by 2028.
