Mumbai’s September Rain Hits 606 mm as IMD Lifts Heavy-Rain Alerts

Showers are forecast to ease to light or moderate this week after the city’s wettest spell of the month.

  • Mumbai has logged 606.1 mm of rain in September to date, far above the 20‑year monthly average of about 380 mm and among the wettest recent Septembers.
  • The weather office downgraded Monday’s orange alert to yellow and has issued no alerts for the next four days, with a green alert in place for Tuesday.
  • In the 24 hours to 8:30 am Monday, Colaba recorded 101.2 mm and Santacruz 77.5 mm, after Colaba topped 120 mm in a day over the weekend for its second-highest single-day total since 2021.
  • Authorities recorded 11 short circuits, three wall collapses and two tree collapses during the peak spell, with no injuries reported.
  • Since June, Santacruz has received 3,100.4 mm (about 787 mm above normal) and Colaba 2,245 mm (about 155 mm above normal), taking the city to roughly 115% of its average annual rainfall so far.
