Overview

  • On June 20, a junior BMC engineer reported major cracks in the Vikas Building, leading municipal officials, the fire brigade and local police to evacuate the premises
  • The next day, the BMC issued a formal Section 354 notice classifying the four-storey structure as C1 and ordering its demolition
  • A structural audit by Mahimtura Consultants a year ago had warned of severe deterioration and recommended urgent repairs that were never carried out
  • Building owners and tenants have filed a high court petition to overturn the C1 designation and allow repairs under a lower classification
  • Jimmy Boy continues serving its Parsi menu from its Mahim branch and through online delivery while the Fort location remains closed
