The first 50‑km SuratBilimora section is planned to open by December 2027, signaling a phased rollout toward full service.

Overview

  • Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw witnessed the GhansoliShilphata breakthrough, a key part of the corridor’s 21‑km underground stretch that includes a roughly 7‑km undersea section.
  • Tunnel Boring Machines are being mobilised for the remaining underground works as large civil construction continues across the route.
  • Officials reported more than 320 km of viaduct completed, 17 river bridges in place, over 400,000 noise barriers installed, and more than 2,000 overhead equipment masts erected along 48 km.
  • Initial operations are planned at about 30‑minute intervals during peak periods, moving toward 10‑minute headways when fully built, with end‑to‑end travel near two hours seven minutes.
  • Loco pilots and maintenance staff are training in Japan, the corridor will use Shinkansen stock with E10 trains slated for import, and Vande Bharat sets will not run on this line.
