MumbaiAhmedabad Bullet Train Project Completes 304 km of Viaduct and 388 km of Pier Work

Trial runs are scheduled for early 2026 under a Japan-backed Shinkansen partnership to target travel times under three hours.

Overview

  • The 508 km high-speed corridor will link Mumbai and Ahmedabad across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli via 12 stations.
  • NHSRCL reports completion of 304 km of elevated viaducts, 388 km of pier construction and major bridges including 14 river spans.
  • Vapi station has finished platform slab casting and structural steel erection, with roof sheeting and electrical installations currently underway.
  • Shinkansen E3 and E5 trainsets from Japan are due for trial runs on a 50 km SuratBilimora section in early 2026.
  • The Gujarat stretch is slated to open by 2027 and full corridor service is expected by 2028 with funding largely from a low-interest Japanese loan.
