MumbaiAhmedabad Bullet Train Project Completes 17th Gujarat River Bridge and 4-km Maharashtra Undersea Tunnel

More than 400 km of foundations are in place under an Indo-Japanese finance framework, setting the corridor up for trial runs in 2026 with full service slated for 2029.

Overview

  • Seventeen of the 25 planned river bridges are now complete, capped by the latest crossing over the Vishwamitri River in Vadodara.
  • A key 4-km stretch of the 21-km undersea tunnel between Ghansoli and Shilphata has been bored out of the Maharashtra section.
  • To date, crews have placed 395 km of piers, cast 333.7 km of girders and launched 312.2 km of superstructure along the 508 km corridor.
  • Track laying has begun on 127 km of viaduct, overhead mast erection is under way and base slab casting has started at the Bandra Kurla Complex station while foundations are complete at eight of 12 stations.
  • Backed by an 81% JICA loan and 19% Indian equity, the project remains on schedule for trial operations in 2026 and full commissioning by December 2029.
