Overview
- About 73% of the ₹1.08 lakh crore budget has been spent, with ₹78,839 crore disbursed through June 30, 2025.
- Of 28 civil contract packages, 24 have been awarded, yielding 392 km of piers built, 329 km of girder casting completed, 308 km of girder launching finished and work under way on a 21 km undersea tunnel.
- The Gujarat section between Vapi and Sabarmati is on track for December 2027 delivery, with the full 508 km corridor targeted for operational readiness by December 2029.
- Japan International Cooperation Agency is funding 81% of the project’s cost, with the remaining 19% covered by equity from the Ministry of Railways and the state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
- National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited has begun drafting detailed project reports for additional high-speed rail corridors linking major cities across India beyond the Mumbai–Ahmedabad route.
