MumbaiAhmedabad Bullet Train Hits 300 km Viaduct Milestone as Test Runs Begin

Gujarat’s section nears operational readiness ahead of scheduled 2026 trial runs.

Overview

  • NHSRCL reports over 300 km of the 508 km viaduct are complete, including 14 river bridges, seven steel bridges and five prestressed concrete spans.
  • Japan has commenced trials of the first Shinkansen trains built for India while domestic models under the Make in India initiative reach test speeds of 280 km/h.
  • Civil work at six of eight Gujarat stations is finished and Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex underground terminus excavation stands at 75%.
  • The corridor, designed for 320 km/h operation, will link 12 stations across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, cutting the journey to under three hours.
  • Partial operations are planned for 2026 with inaugural passenger service in Gujarat by 2028 and full Mumbai connectivity expected by 2030.
