Mumbai Woman Duped of ₹3.78 Lakh in Online Scam Over Kumbh Mela Bookings

A businesswoman and her friend were tricked by scammers posing as official tourism representatives while booking tents and flights for the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.

• A 55-year-old Mumbai woman and her friend lost ₹3.78 lakh to scammers while booking VIP tents and flight tickets for the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
• The victim discovered a fraudulent website, tentcitymahakumbh.org, and transferred funds believing it was linked to an official tourism account.
• The scammers requested personal details and offered discounted flights, pressuring the victims into multiple payments under false pretenses.
• After the payments were made, the victims received no tickets, and the scammers ceased communication, prompting the woman to file a police complaint.
• The N M Joshi Marg police have registered a case under sections of the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, initiating an investigation to trace the culprits.
