Mumbai to Open First Sections of Metro Lines 9 and 2B by December 31

Trial runs on the 2B starter section signal readiness for a year-end public launch.

Overview

  • MMRDA confirmed initial operations on Line 9 between Dahisar East and Kashigaon and on Line 2B between Diamond Garden and Mandale.
  • The 2B opening covers a 5.3 km stretch with trial runs underway, and officials say the timeline remains on track with expected relief for road commuters.
  • Line 9 spans 13.58 km as an elevated extension of Line 7, improving access to the Mira–Bhayandar region.
  • Line 2B will ultimately run from DN Nagar to Mandale over about 23.6 km with 20 stations, forming a key east–west corridor.
  • Line 9 will operate without platform screen doors, diverging from recent Mumbai metro corridors that include this safety feature.
