Mumbai Shelves ₹300-Crore Bollywood-Themed Plan Under Metro 2B After Resident Outcry

The decision follows a year of neighbourhood protests.

Overview

  • Suburban guardian minister Ashish Shelar said he directed MMRDA on Tuesday to cancel the Bollywood-themed beautification planned beneath the Metro 2B corridor.
  • Officials described the order as verbal with meeting minutes awaited for formal record, and MMRDA commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee did not provide a comment.
  • Four to five metallic pilot installations already erected along SV Road will remain despite the wider plan being scrapped.
  • Residents from Bandra, Khar, Santacruz and Juhu West led petitions and protests since December 2024, and former corporator Asif Zakaria alleged procedural lapses including no tenders and no maintenance plan.
  • A limited opening of Metro 2B has been rescheduled to October 31, with only the Mandale–Diamond Garden stretch set to start operations for now.
