Overview

  • Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar ordered all potholes to be filled within 72 hours, flagging urgent repairs on flyovers in Vakola, Vikhroli and Goregaon and warning the BMC will step in if MSRDC does not act.
  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the BMC to accelerate repairs, and Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani told teams to fix defects regardless of road ownership, standardising on mastic asphalt.
  • Officials reported roughly 8,000 pothole complaints this year, while BMC data show 11,525 entries from June to August 22, including duplicates, non-pothole issues and roads under other agencies.
  • Beyond Mumbai, KDMC set a five-day deadline with Rs 30.38 crore sanctioned, 24x7 work and contractor blacklisting for lapses, and Pune police with the PMC formed 11 teams to survey routes, fill potholes, repair lights, ensure CCTV and clear encroachments.
  • Maharashtra Congress accused the state of policy paralysis and poor coordination between agencies, challenging BJP leaders’ pledge of pothole-free roads before August 27.
