Mumbai Sees Three Fires in 24 Hours as Safety Lapse Shuts Ghatkopar Business Park

Fire officials plan enforcement action after finding the Ghatkopar business park’s firefighting system inactive.

Overview

  • An early morning Level-II blaze in Kurla West tore through roughly 15–20 motor-parts and storage units spanning about 3,000 square feet, with no injuries reported.
  • The Mumbai Fire Brigade deployed 10 jumbo tankers, multiple engines and support vehicles, extinguishing the Kurla fire by 7:24 am after hours of operations.
  • A Level-II fire at Golden Crush Business Park in Ghatkopar led to the evacuation of about 200 people and left one person with minor burns before being brought under control around 6 pm.
  • Mumbai Fire Brigade officials said the Ghatkopar blaze started in an electric duct and spread vertically, and they will issue a notice under the Maharashtra Fire Safety and Prevention Act after finding the building’s firefighting system non-operational.
  • Separately, a Level-I apartment fire at Worli Sea Face on Sunday night was contained with residents safe, and the Kurla incident prompted a temporary southbound closure on the SCLR for firefighting.
