Mumbai Reservoirs Reach 99% Capacity, BMC’s Latest Update Shows

IMD forecasts light to moderate rain, prompting close monitoring of dam releases.

  • BMC reported 1,433,481 million litres in the seven lakes on October 7, equal to 99.04% of total capacity.
  • Upper Vaitarna, Vihar and Tulsi are at 100% storage, Modak Sagar stands at 99.99%, Middle Vaitarna at 99.16%, Tansa at 98.37% and Bhatsa at 98.62%.
  • IMD expects generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers in Mumbai, with yellow alerts in Thane and Palghar.
  • Rainfall from 8 am Oct 6 to 8 am Oct 7 measured 4.69 mm in the city, 1.24 mm in the eastern suburbs and 0.33 mm in the western suburbs; high tides are forecast at 11:34 am (4.52 m) and 12:17 am (4.76 m).
  • Water from Lower/Middle/Upper Vaitarna and Tansa supplies western areas, while the Bhatsa system—treated at the Panjarpur plant—serves the eastern parts of the city.
