Mumbai Reservoirs Near Full With Multiple Lakes Overflowing as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Overview

  • The seven reservoirs supplying Mumbai hold 96.74% of capacity, or 14,00,219 million litres, as of August 27, according to BMC data.
  • Upper Vaitarna is at 96.60%, Middle Vaitarna at 97.40%, Bhatsa at 95.52%, Tansa at 99.10%, while Modak Sagar, Vehar and Tulsi are at 100%.
  • BMC officials said Modak Sagar, Tansa, Tulsi and Vehar have been overflowing this month, improving the city’s near-term water security.
  • The IMD issued a yellow alert at 7:20 am for three hours for Mumbai and several districts, advising precautions during brief spells of rain.
  • The civic forecast points to generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain and gusts of 30–40 kmph, with tide monitoring including a 4.07 m high tide at 2:13 pm.
