- BMC data released Monday showed malaria more than doubled from 655 cases in June to 1,380 in July while leptospirosis rose from 33 to 78.
- Dengue increased from 266 to 466 cases and other seasonal illnesses including gastroenteritis, H1N1 and COVID-19 also saw notable month-on-month rises.
- To respond, BMC teams screened about 2.3 million residents, collected roughly 75,650 blood samples, and organised hundreds of health camps during July.
- Vector and rodent control was scaled up with inspections of more than a million potential breeding sites, tens of thousands of fogging operations, removal of tyres and scrap, and widespread anti-larval treatment.
- Officials named multiple neighbourhood hotspots such as Byculla, Madanpura, Mazgaon, Andheri, Sion and Parel and urged residents to clear stagnant water, use repellents and seek prompt care for fever or gastrointestinal symptoms.
