Overview
- Fifty-four of the 77 containers carrying parts of the first tunnel boring machine have arrived in Mumbai, with the balance due by August 15.
- Once all components are delivered, engineers will spend four months assembling the TBM at the Film City launch shaft ahead of tunnelling beneath SGNP.
- Phase 3(B) of the project features a 6.65 km corridor from Film City to Amar Junction, including 5.30 km of TBM-driven twin tunnels and a 1.35 km box tunnel with approach roads.
- The twin tunnels will run between 20 and 160 metres below ground and include cross-passages every 300 metres to ensure safety.
- As part of a ₹6,500 crore segment within a broader ₹14,000 crore plan, the link road is projected to cut east-west travel time from 75 to 25 minutes by October 2028.
