Mumbai Rail Police Book Four in Youth’s Suicide Linked to Online Investment Scam

Investigators say funds moved through out-of-state accounts and the main cyber operators remain untraced.

Overview

  • The Kurla GRP converted an accidental death report into an abetment to suicide case tied to a July 17 rail-track death between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli.
  • Police say the 20-year-old lost about Rs 1.8 lakh after a ‘quiz’ or stock-style scheme paid small early returns and then pressured larger transfers over Telegram.
  • Four account-holders — identified as Govind Ahirwar, Sunil Kumar Mishra, Aman Abbas and Harjit Singh Sandhu — were booked and arrested on allegations they received portions of the funds.
  • Investigators traced transactions to accounts in Madhya Pradesh and other states, and an SBI branch in Madhya Pradesh reversed a flagged transfer to a fraudulent beneficiary account.
  • In a separate case, Sanpada police registered criminal breach of trust and abetment to suicide after a 61-year-old’s April death was linked to an alleged Rs 1.15 crore fraud, with the probe ongoing.
