Overview
- Both Central and Western Railway will run planned work shutdowns, known as blocks, across Mumbai this Saturday and Sunday, affecting suburban and long‑distance trains.
- Central Railway’s 11:15 pm–5:45 am block to dismantle the Prabhadevi (Elphinstone) bridge will halt CSMT–Dadar suburban services from 10:30 pm–6:00 am and cancel 46 locals, with more trains short‑terminated or rescheduled.
- Western Railway will run a major Bandra Terminus–Bandra fifth‑line block from 10 am Saturday to 10 pm Sunday and a 12:15 am–4:15 am jumbo block that diverts all fast trains to slow lines between Santacruz and Churchgate.
- Several long‑distance trains are short‑terminated at Thane or Panvel and others, including the CSMT–Madgaon Vande Bharat, are rescheduled with delays ranging from minutes to hours.
- Rail officials say these blocks enable platform extensions and track, signalling and overhead line upgrades within a ₹16,000‑crore program and Kumbh‑readiness plan, as revenues climb with greater use of AC local services.
