Overview

• A 19-year-old woman and her father approached Kandivali police around 2 a.m., alleging the priest phoned her at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday to seek sexual favours.
• Officers asked them to return in the morning to complete paperwork, and the family began looking for the priest but he could not be found.
• The priest was later discovered hanging from a ceiling fan inside a temple at Laljipada, Ganesh Nagar, in Kandivali West.
• Police said no note was recovered and they registered an accidental death report as the investigation proceeds.
• A later police account identified the deceased as Rajesh Goswami of Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple, whose body was found around 10:30 a.m. and sent to Shatabdi Hospital for post-mortem.
