Overview
- Azad Maidan police directed Manoj Jarange-Patil and associates Pandurang Tarak, Sitaram (Gangadhar) Kalkutthe, Chandrakant Bhosale, Virendra Pawar and Prashant Sawant to appear on November 10 at 11 a.m.
- The notice was issued under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita by Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Awhad for questioning at the Azad Maidan Police Station.
- The case stems from the August 29–September 2 hunger strike and protest held without permission under prohibitory orders, during which police allege roads were blocked and traffic was disrupted.
- An offence cites Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions related to unlawful assembly, disobedience of public orders, wrongful restraint and acts likely to spread infectious diseases, alongside sections of the Maharashtra Police Act.
- Police say the demonstration extended to Hutatma Chowk and caused major clean-up needs, with the BMC removing over 100 metric tonnes of garbage, and they plan to record statements on the scheduled date; separately, Jarange-Patil’s recent assassination-plot allegation against MLA Dhananjay Munde has been denied by Munde, who sought a CBI probe.
