Mumbai Police Investigate Two Cars With Identical Number Plates Near Taj Mahal Hotel

A cab driver’s attempt to evade loan recovery agents by altering his car’s number plate triggered a security alert at the high-profile location.

Two Maruti Suzuki Ertiga cars with identical number plates were discovered near the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai, prompting a swift police response due to the sensitive location.
The original car owner, Sakir Ali, noticed the duplicate vehicle and alerted authorities after months of receiving fines and toll evasion notices for areas he had not visited.
The driver of the duplicate car, Prasad Kadam, confessed to altering his car’s number plate to avoid repossession by loan recovery agents after struggling to pay his EMIs.
Both vehicles were taken to the Colaba police station for investigation, where statements from the drivers were recorded, and an FIR was registered against Kadam.
Authorities confirmed there was no security breach or malicious intent, with the incident being linked solely to financial difficulties and loan evasion.
