Overview

• Following raids on August 5 and 7, Mumbai Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell has taken 12 suspects into custody and obtained remand until August 12 in a probe of a Haryana-based arms smuggling ring.
• Investigators seized three revolvers, one pistol and 51 live cartridges from the detained individuals.
• Suspects told officers they received the weapons in Haryana before travelling to Mumbai, prompting a joint probe that includes digital forensics and call detail record analysis to identify suppliers.
• All 12 accused are being questioned over alleged connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar.
• Authorities are also examining whether the smuggled arms were intended for an extortion scheme targeting public figures such as comedian Kapil Sharma.
