Mumbai Police Files FIR Over Viral EVM Tampering Claims

The Mumbai Cyber Police registered an FIR against Syed Shuja for allegedly making false claims about hacking Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The complaint was filed by the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra, citing violations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the IT Act, 2000.
Election officials emphasized that EVMs are standalone devices that cannot connect to networks like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, making tampering impossible.
Authorities revealed that Shuja, who is reportedly based outside India, was previously accused of similar claims in 2019, leading to an earlier FIR in Delhi.
The Election Commission warned of strict criminal action against individuals spreading misinformation about EVMs and is coordinating efforts to identify any local collaborators.
