Overview

  • The suspect was arrested on Monday after MIDC-based jewellers reported being duped, and a court has remanded him in police custody until August 28.
  • Police say he posed as an International Gemological Institute official at Pune’s Chandukaka Saraf on August 8 to obtain a copy of the store’s GST certificate.
  • Using that document, he allegedly impersonated the brand to place urgent display orders the next day with Money Jewels Expert with Better Diamond and Kalista Jewelers, directing delivery through a porter service.
  • Investigators report a ₹27 lakh diamond-studded piece was collected in Bandra and another order worth about ₹4.5 lakh was taken after diversion to an address in Andheri.
  • Officers traced calling numbers and porter bookings to recover the ornaments and register a case under Section 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as reports differ on the suspect’s identity as Kartik Jain or Karik/Kartik Shah, aged 32–33.
