Overview

• A 48-year-old boiler operator was abducted on July 23 by his 51-year-old ex-girlfriend, her son and associates and beaten for several hours along the Sion-Panvel route.
• The attack followed a fallout over a ₹15 lakh loan the victim provided in 2021 for the purchase of a Navi Mumbai home.
• Chunabhatti police have charged five of the eight accused with kidnapping, unlawful assembly, rioting and voluntarily causing hurt under the new criminal code.
• Investigators say the gang stole the victim’s gold chain, watch, phone and wallet during his confinement.
