Overview

  • Chandramohan Prasad Rambali Singh, 32, posed as an Assistant Director (Security) with the MHA using a counterfeit IAS identity valid until 2028
  • He occupied the Customs Department guest house in Bandra East for two days while traveling in a white Swift Dzire bearing ‘Government of India’ plates
  • Constable Laxman Bagave and Inspector Balasaheb Raut intercepted him near the Silver Oak Hotel in Malad on June 28 following a tip-off from a traffic checkpoint
  • Police seized a fake MHA ID card, 16 visiting cards with the national emblem, two mobile phones and the vehicle used in the deception
  • Singh confessed to the fraud and has been charged under sections 204, 336(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as investigators probe his motive and any accomplices
