Mumbai Police Arrest 8 in Jogeshwari for ₹58 Lakh MTNL Copper Cable Theft

Investigators are pursuing accomplices linked to a scrap network behind repeated copper thefts.

Overview

  • Police and MTNL officials intercepted the group around 3:30am near Farook School on SV Road, finding men extracting live cables from a drainage duct.
  • Officers seized two trucks loaded with wire, an Innova, a two-wheeler and an excavator or crane believed to be used in the removal.
  • MTNL confirmed no authorised work was scheduled at the site, and service disruptions were reported for some customers.
  • The crew allegedly targeted about 1,110 metres of copper cable, and the eight suspects have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and remanded to police custody.
  • Police identified the men as ages 20–40 from Kurla, Sakinaka, Dahisar and Veera Desai Road, and said more arrests are likely as they probe earlier related thefts.
