Overview

• Service will stop in both directions across the Chembur–Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk corridor until further notice, with commuters advised to use suburban rail, Metro and BEST buses.
• The move follows a Sept. 15 stall near Wadala in which 17 passengers were evacuated safely, weeks after an Aug. 19 outage that trapped more than 500 riders.
• Work during the shutdown includes inducting ten Make‑in‑India rakes from Medha/SMH—eight delivered, the ninth under inspection and the tenth in final assembly—plus integrated testing with the upgraded system.
• The upgrade features an indigenously developed CBTC signalling system, with wayside signalling and electronic interlockings reported complete and integrated testing underway.
• MMRDA has suspended senior officials and formed an inquiry committee led by Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Vikram Kumar with IIT Bombay and CIDCO, citing a 3.5‑hour nightly maintenance window as insufficient for major works.
