Mumbai Metro Line 4 Sets First Test Run for Thane Segment on September 22

Officials say the trials mark progress toward quicker, more reliable commutes.

Overview

  • The completed 10‑km Cadbury Junction–Kasarvadavali stretch will undergo its first technical run on Monday, according to Maharashtra transport minister Pratap Sarnaik’s office.
  • Line 4 spans 32.32 km with 30 fully elevated stations from Wadala to Kasarvadavali, with a 2.7‑km Line 4A extension planned to Gaimukh.
  • Planners expect the corridor to cut WadalaKasarvadavali road travel from about 60–75 minutes to roughly 30–40 minutes by Metro.
  • Interchange connections are planned with Lines 5, 6, 2B and 10, with integration to suburban rail, monorail and bus networks; MMRDA is building foot overbridges at Pant Nagar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Vijay Garden.
  • Project details reported include 39 six‑coach trains, projected 2031 ridership of about 12.13 lakh/day for Line 4 and 1.31 lakh/day for Line 4A, and estimated costs of Rs 14,549 crore for Line 4 and Rs 949 crore for Line 4A.
