Mumbai Metro Line 3 Set for Full Operations After Safety Nod, Public Services From Oct. 9

The city’s first all‑underground corridor promises shorter AareyCuffe Parade trips with seamless interchange to airports plus suburban rail.

Overview

  • India’s Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety cleared Phase 2B (Acharya Atre Chowk–Cuffe Parade), enabling end‑to‑end service, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the final stretch on Oct. 8.
  • The 33.5 km Aqua Line spans 27 stations (26 underground, one at‑grade), built at a reported cost of about ₹37,276 crore with extensive tunnelling under heritage precincts.
  • Commercial operations on the full corridor begin Oct. 9 with first trains at 05:55 from Aarey JVLR and Cuffe Parade and last departures at 22:30, using distance‑based fares roughly ₹10–₹60/70 and NCMC, QR and WhatsApp ticketing.
  • The south extension adds key stops including Science Centre, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai Central, Grant Road, Girgaon, Kalbadevi, CSMT, Hutatma Chowk, Churchgate, Vidhan Bhavan and Cuffe Parade, cutting typical end‑to‑end journeys to under an hour.
  • MMRC released official station visuals and access details for Cuffe Parade with multiple entry/exit points near landmarks such as the World Trade Centre and GD Somani School, while an online photo about hawkers near a station remains unverified.
