Mumbai Metro Line-3 Opens End to End With 1.46 Lakh Day-One Riders

Early ridership reached about 1.46 lakh on the first full day, reflecting strong demand for faster north–south trips under an hour.

Overview

  • Mumbai’s 33.5 km Aqua Line is now fully operational from Aarey JVLR to Cuffe Parade with 27 stations after the final phase opened to passengers on October 9.
  • Services run from 5:55 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. with peak headways of about five minutes, fares set between Rs 10 and Rs 70, and 31 trains in service.
  • The corridor links key hubs including CSMT, Churchgate, Mumbai Central, BKC, and both airport terminals, with MMRC projecting a 15% shift off suburban rail and major road decongestion.
  • The Mumbai One app for QR-based multi‑modal tickets went live and the line supports National Common Mobility Card payments for contactless access.
  • Opening-day crowds highlighted initial issues such as non-functional ticket machines, weak mobile signal underground, long queues, brief gate closures for crowd control, and some pending last‑mile and station-area works, even as Tata Power supplies roughly 40 MW to the line.
