Overview
- Pre-construction steps covering design, clearances, consultant appointments and tender preparation are underway, with construction expected around 2027 and completion near 2030.
- The 17.5 km corridor will run from Wadala’s Anik Bus Depot to SPM Circle in Colaba with 14 stations, 13 of them underground, through areas including Sewri, Byculla, Nagpada, Bhendi Bazaar, Crawford Market and CSMT.
- Interchanges are planned with Metro Line 4 at Wadala and Line 3 at CSMT, with integration to the Monorail and suburban rail, and a Dharavi link is being explored to create a major multi-modal hub.
- The draft Environmental Impact Assessment notes about 2,200 trees affected, required coastal and eco-sensitive zone clearances, and roughly 104 acres of land needs, the majority on government land.
- A 39-acre integrated depot at Anik–Pratiksha Nagar on BEST land is proposed, and DMRC projections estimate daily ridership of around 5.8 lakh in 2031 rising to over 10 lakh by 2055.
