Mumbai Metro Line 11 Seeks Maharashtra Approval and Invites Public Feedback

Citizens have until August 20 to submit suggestions on the 17.5-kilometre JICA-backed corridor before it moves to central review.

Overview

  • MMRCL formally requested state approval on July 22 and opened a public consultation window for Metro Line 11.
  • The proposed line will run 17.5 kilometres underground from Wadala’s Anik Depot to the Gateway of India with 14 stations.
  • Japan International Cooperation Agency financing is in place and further central government clearances will be required before competitive bidding.
  • The environmental and social impact assessment warns that over 2,200 trees will be cut or transplanted and about 800 structures—including four heritage religious sites—will be affected.
  • MMRCL forecasts daily ridership of around 580,000 by 2031 and nearly 870,000 by 2041 for the new corridor.
