Mumbai Metro Gears Up for January Openings as Line 3 Boosts Weekday Services From Jan 5

CMRS reviews have shifted inaugurations into January, setting up phased rollouts through mid-2026.

Overview

  • Mumbai Metro Line 3 will run 292 weekday trips starting January 5, adding 27 services, with Saturdays rising to 236 trips and Sundays unchanged at 198.
  • Phase 1 of Line 9, a 4.5 km four-station stretch from Dahisar East to Kashigaon bringing first-time access to Mira Bhayandar, has moved from a planned December opening to January after CMRS checks that began in December.
  • Line 2B’s 5.3 km Mandale–Diamond Garden segment in Chembur is nearing readiness and undergoing safety testing, with the next phase from DN Nagar to Saraswat Nagar targeted for mid-2026.
  • Lines 4/4A are slated to debut a 10.5 km Thane section from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh by March, with a further 10 km to Gandhi Nagar planned within six months and full completion to Wadala projected for 2027.
  • Line 6 along the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road is aimed for full operation by mid-2026, with depot constraints addressed through on-line inspection facilities and an expected frequency of roughly six minutes.
