Mumbai Metro Extends Lines 2A and 7 to Midnight for Ganeshotsav

The festival plan increases capacity through published headways with a pledge to deploy more trains if demand rises.

Overview

  • From August 27 to September 6, the last trains will depart at 12:00 a.m. from Andheri West on Line 2A and Gundavali on Line 7, instead of 11:00 p.m.
  • Weekday services rise to 317 trips with 12 additional runs, Saturdays to 256 and Sundays to 229, reflecting a short-term festival timetable.
  • Headways are set at 5 minutes 50 seconds in weekday peaks and 9 minutes 30 seconds off-peak, with Saturday peaks at 8:06 and a flat 10 minutes on Sundays.
  • Officials say the changes respond to heavy festival travel and recent ridership highs, with paperless ticketing usage also surging.
  • The Aqua Line will operate daily from 6:30 a.m. to midnight during the same period, while Line 4/4A trial activities advanced with coaches placed on track in Thane.
