Mumbai Marathon Set for Sunday With Record Field, New Coastal Road Route and Pre‑Dawn Transit Plan

Pre‑dawn rail services with limited metro gate access will move tens of thousands to a 5 a.m. start.

Overview

  • Organisers expect roughly 69,000 to 70,000 participants across events, with an elite lineup featuring Victor Kiplangat, Bazezew Asmare Belay and Shure Demise competing for a prize pool above ₹3.5 crore, including $50,000 for each elite winner and bonuses for records and top Indian finishers.
  • The 21st‑edition course starts at CSMT and covers Marine Drive, Worli Sea Face and the Bandra‑Worli Sea Link, with the Mumbai Coastal Road added for this year’s full‑marathon route.
  • Central and Western Railway will operate special early‑morning locals on January 18, while Metro Line 3 begins at 3:30 a.m. and will keep select gates at CSMT and Hutatma Chowk closed from 12:01 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Start times are set with the full and half marathons at 5:00 a.m., the 10 km at 6:00 a.m., the elite race at 7:00 a.m., and additional disability, senior‑citizen and Dream Run events in staggered slots.
  • Forecasts indicate mostly clear conditions near 21°C at 5:00 a.m. with about 77% humidity and light northerly winds, rising to around 24°C and lower humidity by late morning as traffic curbs and diversions support race operations.
