Overview

• Rahul Gupta, 34, entered the VN Desai Hospital emergency ward on June 25 wielding a bamboo stick and struck his brother-in-law, Sanjay Gupta, on the head.
• Staff who tried to intervene were verbally abused, threatened and physically assaulted before Gupta damaged a fan and chairs.
• Police say the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute earlier that day and that Gupta was intoxicated at the time.
• Vakola police registered charges under Section 4 of the Maharashtra Medical Service Persons and Medical Service Institutions Act for violence against medical personnel and property.
• Sanjay Gupta was transferred to Sion Hospital for further treatment and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
