Mumbai Local Trains Disrupted As Western Cancels 629 Services, Central Sets Sunday Mega Block

Rail officials say the intensive works will improve safety, enabling more punctual, more frequent services.

Overview

  • Western Railway’s 30-day block on the KandivaliBorivali section, active from December 20 to January 18, underpins sixth-line construction to segregate suburban and long-distance traffic.
  • Saturday saw acute disruption on the Western Line with 296 local services cancelled, electronic interlocking commissioned at Borivali during a 1 am–7 am block, and platforms 8 and 9 shut through December 29.
  • Central Railway will conduct a mega block on Sunday, December 28, with Main Line fast tracks shut between Matunga and Mulund from 11:05 am to 3:45 pm and fast services diverted to the slow corridor, adding roughly 15 minutes.
  • Harbour Line operations will pause on Sunday between CSMT and Chunabhatti/Bandra from 11:40 am to 4:40 pm (reverse 11:10 am to 4:10 pm), with multiple CSMT-bound and outbound services to Vashi, Belapur, Panvel, Bandra and Goregaon cancelled in published windows.
  • Mitigation includes special PanvelKurla locals every 20 minutes and permission for Harbour passengers to use Main Line and Western routes between 10 am and 6 pm, while WR will close select FOB staircases at Kandivali and Vasai from December 29 with alternate access in place.
